Black Women to Women Spirit Health Education Survey
Between 2002 and 2003, the Mautner Project conducted the national Black Women to Women Spirit Health Education Survey. More than 600 African American lesbian and bisexual women participated in this survey which was funded in part by a grant from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Data collected in this study represents African American lesbians and bisexual women who were connected to lesbian networks, organizations, and events or had access to the internet. Eligible women were those who self-identified as lesbian/bisexual and African American, and were 20 years of age and older.
These data are not representative of all African American lesbians. For example, because many of these women were already connected to community resources they may be more likely to also participate in heath programs that are culturally tailored to their specific needs.
